Artist Statement:

For this exhibition I explored the concept of ‘Spirit of Place’ and how it informs my work and practice. Like most people, I am a creature of habit. I often visit the same places that speak to me. I am not even sure why that is, or what the message is. It’s more about having a connection, feeling like you are part of an old memory, or that the memory has something to say.

I have always explored our province, finding special places for inspiration. The landscape is enchanting, with its wide-open spaces, roads and structures. I am drawn to the abandoned places that remind me of the past, the passage of time and what has been lost.

As the physical traces of earlier prairie life disappears, I am called to pay homage and to give those places a voice and a chance to live on. The memories are stories, and the stories help us to stay connected to the soul of the land.
