Bark by Brian Gladwell | Free Ranging by Zane Wilcox

Opening Reception: Thursday, January 24, 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.

Bark presents Brian Gladwell's new approach to his medium of wood. Highly refined surfaces combined with rough exteriors add a new dimension to Gladwell's functional sculpture. The contrast of textures as well as treatment shows the dichotomy through which we often experience the natural world.

Zane Wilcox's development of texture and scale in his stoneware sculpture allows for a creative use of light on the surface. Further enhanced by a clever application of reflective gold and strong colours the surface becomes integral to the experience of his vessels bringing a vibrational quality that would not otherwise exist.

Art Talk on Friday March 16th – Reception 7 to 10 p.m. – Talk at 7:30 p.m.
Commercial Gallery Owners and Artists will be speaking.
Admission is Free.

This exhibition features artists represented by The Gallery / Art Placement of Saskatoon and The Slate Fine Art Gallery of Regina.

Commercial galleries and artwork sales are important to sustaining the arts ecology in our time. Commercial galleries serve the public by providing access to artwork for private ownership and use in a home or business space. A commercial gallery serves the artist by presenting their artwork publicly. They nurture an audience and buyers for the artist’s work, helping to sustain an artist’s practice and building credibility for their art expression.

In the public Art Gallery of Swift Current exhibition titled “Art for Sale”, we examine two major Saskatchewan commercial galleries including The Gallery / Art Placement of Saskatoon – now celebrating its 40th year of service – and The Slate Fine Art Gallery of Regina, established only a few years ago. This exhibition will introduce us to the major artists, newly established artists, and emerging artists of Saskatchewan represented by these galleries. See fine artworks which are for sale and learn how to buy an artwork and why we should and also better appreciate the quality of fine artwork and professionalism offered by commercial galleries.

Please note the Gallery will be closed Wednesday afternoons due to the Minds in Motion program, from February 7 to March 28, 2018.

Heather Cline: Quiet Stories

Opening Reception: Thursday,  January 11, 5-8 PM

Quiet Stories from Canadian Places is a national touring exhibition created in response to Canada's 150th anniversary celebration. Cline's work shifts the traditional role that painting has played in documenting history through official portraiture and pivotal historical moments, to documenting Canadian places that are significant to everyday people and simple moments. Over the past 10 years, Cline has been quietly gathering stories from communities across Canada , collecting personal and regional histories. Using the experiences of everyday people as her inspiration, Cline documents Canadian places through site, sound and memeory, creating a "multiplicity of experience."

The  resulting  exhibition features approximately fifty paintings interspersed with audio stories that create a dynamic narrative space filled with images and soundscapes.

This exhibition will be split between Slate Fine Art Gallery and the  Sherwood Art Gallery in Regina.
